Civil War: Art at the service of freedom

Dynamic visit

The visit raises a reflection on the consequences of war conflicts in everyday life, culture and artistic production. Based on the dialogue with the works, participants establish parallels between the historical events of the Civil War in Lleida and other current conflicts, analyzing concepts such as freedom, human rights, forced displacement, censorship, propaganda and disinformation.

The methodology is based on the active participation of the students. The works become historical sources that must be observed, interpreted and put in relation to other documents and to the group’s prior knowledge. The route incorporates open questions, mediation resources and debate dynamics that favor the development of critical thinking.

The activity contributes especially to the development of civic competence , competence in cultural awareness and expression and communicative competence, promoting the construction of a critical view of historical images and discourses. It also favors the understanding of heritage as a source of knowledge and democratic memory.

From a curricular point of view, the proposal is especially relevant to the areas of Social Sciences, Geography and History, Contemporary World History, Culture and Values, Visual and Plastic Education and Languages, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to the historical and cultural processes of the 20th century.

The itinerary maintains a direct link with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), promoting the values ​​of democratic coexistence, respect for human rights and the culture of peace.
