MORERA Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida
MORERA, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida, hosts the presentation ceremony of the donation of Lluís Schell (1924, Krefeld, Germany – Lleida 2009) to the City Council of Lleida, destined for the MORERA collections. A set of 4 works, 2 drawings and two sculptures
Lluís Schell was an artist of German origin based in Lleida, who exhibited drawings and works as a painter and graphic designer. He studied advertising at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et des Arts Décoratifs in Brussels (the Belgian “Bauhaus”).

From 1950 to 1970 he worked as a professor of advertising design at the École de Dessin et des Arts Apliqués de Bruxelles and as a creative director (Art Director) in different Visual Communication companies. In 1970, a radical change occurred in his life: tired of an increasingly stressful life, he left the world of advertising and moved from Brussels to Lleida (without knowing how to speak either Spanish or Catalan), with his wife Càndida – of Catalan origin and whom he married on September 30, 1953 – and two children, Lluís and Joan Pere.
In 1971 he designed and built his house/studio: “El Grill Blanc”, as well as most of the furniture,
shelves, various lights, tables, beds, etc… Here you have the tranquility and time, which in
Belgium did not have the space to develop its extensive work in the peaceful setting of the Lleida orchard.
The presentation will be attended by the Councilor for Culture, Pilar Bosch , and the artist’s children. The event will close with a conversation between Jordi Mestre and Jesús Navarro , director of MORERA, about the relevance of Lluís Schell and his work.
