Morera multipurpose room. Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida
Lleida City Council’s Democratic Memory is once again programming the show “Hidden Letters (from when the radio wanted to make people forget the Republican exile). “
The performance will be performed by the reciter Jaume Belló, the musician Pancho Marrodán and the Companyia La Màxima.
The music of the interwar period accompanied the silences of those families who had to keep their correspondence and documents hidden to be read in solitude as if they were furtive acts. The letters of their loved ones who had to move away and who, in some cases, could no longer return home. While the frivolity with the message of the copla sounded on the radio and “ la querida Elena Francis” gave manly advice, the women lived the bitterness of the growing separation and struggled to move forward in a country that magnified the raising of descendants to repopulate the homeland.
To remember this period in our country, a reading and piano accompaniment show has been created that revolves around the correspondence and diaries of Lleida deportees to the concentration camps. The texts will be read by Jaume Belló who will also sing some musical pieces from those years and the musical accompaniment will be by pianist Pancho Marrodán. The show will be accompanied by several images showing letters and photographs from the Mauthausen camp.
