Visit to the reservation room

Guided tour

The exhibition rooms show only a small part of the collection held by MORERA. This visit offers the opportunity to access one of the spaces usually restricted to the public and discover what happens to the works of art when they are not on display.

During the tour, participants will learn about preventive conservation criteria, storage systems, documentation, registration and cataloguing of works, as well as restoration processes that guarantee the preservation of artistic heritage for future generations. The role of the different professionals involved in the management of a museum will also be explained: conservators, restorers, documentalists, registrars and specialized technicians.

The visit highlights that the function of a museum goes far beyond the exhibition of works of art and allows us to understand the complexity of the scientific, technical and heritage work behind any exhibition.

The activity especially favors the development of scientific competence , artistic and cultural competence and civic competence, helping to understand the social importance of conserving cultural heritage.

Curricularly, connections are established with Art History, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets, Visual and Plastic Education, History, Experimental Sciences, Technology and Professional Training linked to cultural heritage.

The proposal contributes especially to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Protection of Cultural Heritage) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), emphasizing the need to preserve cultural resources in a sustainable way.
