Summary

Digital Atrium

From October 2, 2026 to February 28, 202 7

This piece explores the relationship between kinetic, light and acoustic phenomena. A generative algorithm ensures that graphic, kinetic and acoustic elements are closely related and never exactly repeated, surprising with constantly new visual and sound experiences. Behind the final form of Signes, a matrix canvas of custom rotating light bars, lies a handcrafted set of software and hardware elements built by the artists themselves. Conceived as an autonomous visual musical instrument, Signes will debut a new rule-based behavior. An animated landscape of kinetics, light and sound, blurring the boundaries between natural behaviors and digital automation.

Playmodes is an audiovisual research studio.

Santi Vilanova and Eloi Maduell , trained in the fields of graphic design, musical composition and computer engineering, conceive works halfway between art and science.

All of his projects are developed using home-made technologies and take the form of immersive light installations, graphic works, sculptural devices, kinetic engines, scenography or multimedia concerts that explore an abstract universe of visual music.

Inspired by natural phenomena, scientific research, literature, abstract art, experimental animation or contemporary music, they develop abstract pieces that, from multiple perspectives, consolidate the perception of space, light, sound and time.

In recent years, Playmodes has developed projects on an international scale: New York, Berlin, Sydney, Shanghai, São Paulo, Geneva, Rome or London. For international artistic institutions such as the ZKM, Ars Electronica or the Copenhagen Opera; in light festivals such as the Fete des Lumières in Lyon, the Signal in Prague, the LlumBCN in Barcelona or the Luz Madrid.
