On the occasion of the inauguration of the new Morera headquarters. Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida, scheduled for this 2023, the conservation and restoration activity of the institution has focused, basically, on the preparation of the works selected to form part of the new permanent exhibition.

In this project, seventy-four works on paper of various types (drawings, engravings, editions, photographs, posters and others) have been selected by key artists in the new exhibition discourse of the Museum: Josep Benseny, Joaquim Mir, Santiago Rusiñol, Enric Crous, Manuel Viola, Àngel Jové or Baldomer Gili i Roig. Some of these works will be shown to the public for the first time.

The conservator-restorer of graphic documents, Núria Vila, will complete during this month of January the various interventions planned for the works, all of them carried out under the technical direction of Carme Balliu, coordinator of the specialty Document, work on paper and photography of the Furniture Restoration Center of Catalonia (CRBMC).

Despite the uniqueness of each of the works, as a result of their various typologies, all the pieces presented similar pathologies: surface dirt, acidity, foxing, undulations, small strips, folds, erosions due to lipism, etc. With this action, the necessary conservation and restoration treatments have been carried out to guarantee the stability of the pieces and to be able to display them in optimal conservation conditions.

All this action has been possible thanks to a grant from the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
