Kaleidoscope Benet Rossell is a collection of articles on the life and work of one of the most unique and representative Catalan artists of the last century

On February 16, the Museum hosted the presentation of Benet Rossell Kaleidoscope, a monograph dedicated to the figure and work of the contemporary artist Benet Rossell (Àger 1937-Barcelona 2016).

The event, held in the museum’s current premises in the Casino building, was attended by the mayor of Lleida, Miquel Pueyo; the artist’s widow and administrator of his legacy, Cristina Giorgi; the curator of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), Àlex Mitrani; and the director of Morera, Jesús Navarro.

The idea of this publication was born following the conferences that, in 2019, the City Council of Lleida and the Institute of Ilerdencs Studies, with the collaboration of the University of Lleida and the Filmoteca de Catalunya, dedicated to Benet Rossell in the city of Lleida. In these, different activities were combined, including the holding of several round tables where some interventions were made that have become articles in the book, to which others have now been added that complete an approach throughout the artist’s creative universe.

Under the editorial direction of Cristina Giorgi, Àlex Mitrani and Jesús Navarro, the publication begins with a foreword by Jesús Navarro himself (“Kalidoscope”), and ends with an epilogue by Francesc Fité (“The footprint of Montsec and the Vall d’Àger in the work of Benedict”).

It is an extensive and careful monograph containing articles by Lydia Oliva and Àlex Mitrani on the figure of the visual artist; Lluís Alabern on the plastic and para-theatrical side; Jaume Pont and Antoni Clapés on the poetic work; Mariona Bruzzo, Esteve Riambau and Antoni Pinent about the filmmaker and his film work; and Miguel Angel Marin on the musical work. In addition, the publication also incorporates an important collection of unpublished graphic material, which completes this kaleidoscopic vision of the artist’s career: creator, filmmaker, poet, etc.

Kaleidoscope Benet Rossell has been possible thanks to the Morera. Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida, the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) and the Arnau Mir de Tost Foundation with the collaboration of the Institute of Ilerdencs Studies (IEI).
