Miguel Ángel Gallardo Paredes (Lleida, 1955 – Barcelona 2022), who signed himself simply as Miguel Gallardo, was a prominent cartoonist, creator, among many other characters, of Makoki, an emblematic comic character born in 1977 and appearing in crucial publications of the counterculture in his homeland (Disco Exprés). His legacy is part of the MORERA collections.
In the nineties and already in the new century, Gallardo began a new stage, with more personal works, mainly biographical, such as Nosaltres som els morts , where he serialized Un larg silenci , a work later compiled by De Ponent in 1997. Later, with the award-winning Maria i jo (2007), he tells about Maria i jo (2007), a story he received media recognition. In 2015 he published Maria fa 20 anis , a continuation of this same story. In 2019 he illustrated Rubianes, only: Els millors monologues il·lustrats, nene and in 2020 he published Alguna cosa estragna em va pas camí de casa .
In recent years Gallardo has also worked for the press, collaborating with his illustrations in publications such as The New Yorker, La Vanguardia or Público, among others.
