Mission and vision

Mission

The MORERA. Modern and Contemporary Art Museum of Lleida is a public service which seeks to raise awareness of modern and contemporary art and disseminate the narratives found in its collections.

It is an open space for debating and reflecting critically on the art and culture of our times. It carries out its mission with the complicity and involvement of its visitors with a view to generating creation-based experiences that promote an enjoyment of culture and personal transformation.

Vision

The MORERA seeks to become a benchmark centre for the conservation, study and dissemination of modern and contemporary art produced in the Ponent region and Catalonia which is visited, recognised, accessible, participatory and socially responsible, distinguished by its engagement with the local community and the high regard in which it is held.

  • Diversity and excellence. The museum is home to a living and accessible collection of more than 5,000 pieces, including works depicting the diversity of modern society and various artistic languages of modern and contemporary visual culture.
  • A permanent home. The move to the former Courthouse building brings an end to a hundred years of nomadism, definitively establishing the museum in a space that lends itself to teamwork, facilitates the conservation of artwork and allows for a wide range of activities to take place.
  • More than a service. In addition to its exhibition and artistic dissemination activities, the museum offers activities and services that are conceived to bring art to the wider public.
  • The museum: in the hands of the community. Through a series of participatory mechanisms, activities and networks, the MORERA seeks to become a socially conscious museum in the hands of the community.
