Hamill Industries @hamill_industries is a creative studio based in Barcelona, formed by artists Anna Díaz and Pablo Barquín. The duo specializes in developing innovative projects based on experimentation, combining emerging and traditional techniques to create new formats of visual communication. They blend physical engineering, lighting design, moving image, AI and visual programming to expand their imagination beyond the screen into more tangible experiences.
GRASP consists of seven distinct videos, each self-contained but united under an overarching concept. At the heart of Hamill Industries’ practice, “grasping” represents the creation of visual artworks that feel strikingly real, organic, and tangible.
The videos, titled Water, Fire, Refractions, Ice, Lava, Cosmos, Alchemy, represent materialities, combined to explore macroscopic landscapes. They reflect geological conditions and evoke primordial energy in transformation: waves of water, lava, ice, refractions of light, bursts of energy, and eruptions. Each landscape has been meticulously chosen; these pieces capture the dynamic forces of organic matter, transporting the audience into Hamill’s cosmogenesis and elaborate materialities.
Each image has been meticulously shot in the studio, with all explosions, textures, materials and sparks crafted in-camera to immerse the viewer in a sensory journey through dynamic landscapes. The project employs several techniques central to Hamill Industries’ practice, including time-lapse, slow-motion pigments and Schlieren flow visualization.
The pieces juxtapose diverse terrains, colors, and materials to illustrate the fury of nature and highlight the beauty and power of natural processes, reminding viewers of nature’s unparalleled power and humbling them with its force.
