Uniting choral singing with the cultural heritage of the city of Lleida . This is the proposal of the 15th edition of Lleida Canta , a unique gathering of choirs organized by the Coral Maristes Montserrat and the Catalan Federation of Choral Entities to bring voices and songs to unique settings to bring this music closer to new audiences.

Each year the activity – which is held one year in the city and the next outside – revolves around a motto. After singing about the Romanesque of the Boí Valley, the climate emergency or the Ebro Delta, in this edition, on the occasion of the Year of Lluís Virgili, the theme is museums . And for this reason the choirs will sing distributed by groups in the Museum of Lleida, Morera Museum, La Panera, the Institute of Ilerdencs Studies and the Roda Roda automotive museum. At the end, they will give a joint performance in Plaça Sant Joan, where they will perform a joint repertoire, formed by the Himne del Lleida Canta , El cant del poble (in homage to Lluís Virgili) and Els Segadors .

For the organizers, Lleida Canta “is a pretext to discover new sounds, to get to know the territory and make the country and, above all, to make a connection between the different entities and make themselves felt as a rich cultural heritage.”

Year of Virgil

The activity is part of the events commemorating the centenary of the birth of the musician and pedagogue from Lleida, Lluís Virgili i Farrà (1925-2017), a reference in culture and choral singing in Catalonia. The Year of Virgili is promoted by eight cultural entities in Lleida, together with the Paeria, Diputació and Generalitat, and consists of 15 activities linked to historical recovery, dissemination and citizen participation. After the meeting on April 6, the next highlight of the program there will be the institutional reception at the Parliament of Catalonia (June 10), with the participation of the Orfeó Lleidatà and singers from the Terres de Lleida.
